Insidious overeating

There are many well-known pernicious habits. The majority of them are extremely harmful for one's health; others are not so unhealthy and are regarded as mere singularities and oddities. It is easy to relate a harmful habit to one of these groups. But as for overeating it is socially acceptable. This fact makes it extremely insidious. All people know from childhood that it is bad to smoke, to drink, to take drugs, etc. Parents try to put their children on the right track in the beginning of their lives. Even when a person drinks or smokes cigarettes, he/she subconsciously admits that it is bad, harmful and improper to do it. But what about overeating? Parents usually look with admiration at their child and appreciate, when it tucks away a great amount of food. Parents often think that the more their child eats, the healthier it will be. It is a very wrong and harmful point of view. When children acquire this stereotype from their parents, it becomes impossible to bring them over to the opposite point of view. When they at last realize the whole amount of damage, which is brought by this habit, it is often too late to change something. Only very strong-willed persons are able to set a goal for losing weight and reach it. A person who wants to lose weight has to go through superhuman efforts to attain the desired goal.
Overeating can be caused by anxiety, depression, fear, neurosis, etc. The same reasons can also cause lack of appetite. Stress conditions affect different people in many ways. That is why if you notice that you tend to overeat when you feel anxious, don't ignore this fact and treat it seriously. When you experience anxiety and uneasiness very often, you may get used to eat more than usual. Gradually it will become a norm for you and further you will invent different lame excuses to justify the reasons for overeating.
Overeating is a problem which doesn't come suddenly. It develops gradually and unnoticeably. Its results and consequences are not visible at once. And when they are visible, it is often too late to change your way of life. That is why you should follow your habits and not allow yourself to eat more than your usual amount of food.
Take care of yourself. It is always easier to avoid a pernicious habit than to try to overcome it.
